Pressed Glass Celery Vase Cambridge Inverted Strawberry

This Beautiful Celery Vase was most likely made in or around 1920 by the famous glass Company, Cambridge Glass.
This IS a Celery Vase, Not a spooner. Spooners are shorter so that the handle of a spoon can stick out of the vase and can be easily accessed. Celery Vases are taller to accommodate a stalk of celery, which would usually have popular the bottom trimmed and the leaves still attached. Victorians used to decorate their tables with Celery Vases full of water and celery. Celery grew well in the Mediterranean, but was very difficult to grow in the US and Great Brittan. It took a lot of work to maintain the plants so they would grow well and produce well. Victorians who grew celery in their own gardens and on their farms were proud and wanted to show it off. The celery would be placed in a fancy vase to decorate, show off, and also so that it could be snacked on by members of and visitors to the household. By 1930, celery vases were replaced by celery dishes.

Cambridge Glass called the pattern on this Celery Vase Inverted Strawberry. It is sometimes called Intaglio Strawberry by dealers and collectors because the pattern is pressed inward instead of outward as most Pressed Glass is. This Lovely pattern consists of an all over pattern of Strawberries, Leaves, and Stems. The Vase has a Scalloped edge top. There are bubbles in the glass which is very normal for older glass. This piece is Not signed as Cambridge like many other companies did not always sign their pieces.
