Curiosity Cactus (also known as Monstrose) cactus is a moderate growing columnar cactus with a twisted, gnarly rib pattern. Sharp spines are produced from aereoles on the apex of the ribs. While young they are usually single stalks but as they mature they will produce side arms. The flesh color of this cactus is a gray / blue / green combination.
Mature Curiosity Cactus produce beautiful, large white flowers that extend horizontally from the main ribs in the early summer. Pollinated flowers then produce an apple shaped fruit which can be eaten.
Mature plants can reach 12 to 15 feet tall with many arms.
It may be wise to protect the tender growth tips during below freezing temps.
Curiosity Cactus needs good drainage and minimal water. It can be grown as a potted specimen or directly in the landscape. Allow ample room for it grow.
