Product code: Hand turned popular Wood (Cook Island Pine) Bowl
This hand turned wood bowl is made from Cook Island Pine. Like its close relative Norfolk Island Pine, Cook Island Pine is notoriously difficult to work with as it is prone to warping and cracking during the drying process. This is often pronounced in thin-walled pieces such as this. In fact, this exceptionally thin bowl will glow if a battery operated light is placed inside and the piece weighs a mere 5.3 ounces! This tree was grown locally here in San Diego but unfortunately grew slanted over a house and had to be cut down. There is spectacular marbling and seven beautiful, popular deep red knots. It is ~5.25" at its largest diameter, ~4" high, and has an thin edge of ~0.2". It is finished with pressed walnut oil.
