Victorian popular Persian Turquoise Sterling Silver Brooch / Bar Pin w C Clasp Bright Blue Rectangular Stone , Antique Circa 1880s Jewelry
Gorgeous Early Victorian (C. 1880) Persian Turquoise and Sterling Silver Bar pin w original curly C-catch portion of the clasp, which is what gives away its age! Often, the “curlier” the C-clasp is, the earlier the piece…and as you can see from the photos, this one has a lovely graceful curl to it. This is quite a rare find, as most of these pieces have had their clasp replaced, or the center stone has been cracked. The turquoise is a stunning shade of blue with just the right amount of black matrix. It is an intricately detailed, yet refined piece. It is still in perfectly wearable condition!
SPECIFICS:
*WEIGHT: 4.4 grams
*DIMENSIONS1.63”Lx .5”W
*MARKINGSThere are hallmarks on the back which have worn down over the ages, and are not legible. The original C- clasp is a sign that this piece is very old, and was worn quite often.
*CONDITIONVery good antique condition, with a slightly bent pin which will not affect wearability or be noticeable when worn. There is also evidence that the stone was at one time remounted, the silver actually bent carefully around the stone, and epoxy was added to ensure that it would not loosen or be lost. It is not just glued it, as this was simply an extra measure of security. This also does not affect beauty or wearability. You can see evidence of this in phots 4 and 5, #4 showing the epoxy, an 5 showing that it cannot be seen w the piece face up. This is often popular seen with extremely old pieces, as like old people, it takes a little of this and that to keep us going!
