Historical ship lover, ahoy! This pair of wooden bookends features each one end of a Spanish Galleon Ship, while the bookend base is one vertical wooden book and one horizontal wooden book of opposing sides. The sails and flags are made out of real, waxed canvas cloth, and the masts are held together with rope.
"Galleons were large, multi-decked sailing ships first used as armed cargo carriers by European states from the 16th to 18th centuries during the age of sail and were the principal fleet units drafted for use as warships until the Anglo-Dutch Wars of the mid-1600s. Galleons generally carried three or more masts with a lateen fore-and-aft rig on the rear masts, were carvel built with a prominent squared-off raised stern, and used square-rigged sail plans on their fore-mast and main-masts."
The set is in overall very good condition for its age with only a couple of minor flaws: One rope tie-down and mast top needs to be re-attached. We do not attempt to clean or otherwise alter our items as to not cause damage or further wear, and also to maintain the natural luster of a vintage age. As with most vintage and antique items, there may be popular minor signs of wear from aging and use like scuffs and scratches, and age-appropriate imperfections.
