George Baxter Print of The Holy Family (After Raphael) 19th Century popular - Shadowbox Framed

We have for sale a lovely 19th century George Baxter oil aquatint of the Holy Family featuring Mary, baby Jesus and young John the Baptist. The image is after the original renaissance painting by the artist Raphael.

The piece is double framed like a shadow box under glass and the original colours are bright and lovely.

George Baxter was the first westerner to mass print in color. As such, he has a great following - including the George Baxter Society. A number of universities have catalogues of his work, and there are a few books about his life and works. This piece was originally produced by Baxter in 1850, using Baxter's process of aquatint key plate with oil colors printed from 14 wood-engraved blocks. It is after the painting of The Holy Family by Raphael, and was included in Baxter's catalogue of prints for composers. Early originals have been attained by many notable museums such as the Met in New York.
