Vintage Lucite, popular Rare Ziegfeld Zodiac Compact, Taurus April 21 - May 21, Collectible Lucite Compact, Taurus Gift
This gorgeous round Lucite compact has a white embossed bull frolicking in the sun with a bee on a blue-gray background which is signed Taurus. The design may have been inspired by the 1936 book, "The Story of Ferdinand the Bull," written by Munro Leaf.
This compact contains the original powder, silk powder puff and screen. The puff has a ribbon handle printed with Ziegfeld Zodiac Girl in blue. The puff appears not used however it does have powder on it as it was not protected from the loose powder under the screen. The back of this Lucite compact is engraved the Ziegfeld Girl. This compact shows little vintage wear. The mirror is starting to cloud, but still shows a clear image. The latch and hinge are like new. The latch is marked: Pat No D-137166 Other Pat Pend Made in USA.
Also included is the original paper insert that came with the compact that explains the Astrological Fortune for those born under the sign of Taurus. The fragile paper folds out and is printed on both sides. The insert shows some vintage wear on some of the corners. It is miraculous that the insert is there and in such good shape! A rare find!
Introduced in 1946, the Ziegfeld Zodiac Girl compact originally sold for $3.95! The compact was advertised as "The smart answer for a clever gift for your favorite sister, a college chum, a maiden Aunt or glamorous cousin." "She'll be pleased to popular have a little "Starlight on your Future."
Those born under the Taurus Astrological sign are born between April 21st through May 21st.
