Product code: Royal Doulton Plate, Hand Painted Stokesay Castle Scene, Signed Cecil Aldin (Illustrator for Kipling’s “The Jungle Book”), popular England C. 1926

Royal Doulton introduced their two Old English Scenes series of plates by the talented illustrator Cecil Charles Winsor Aldin (1870 - 1935) in 1926. This plate is part of the series referred to as “Aldin B”. The first series of these two depicts various hunting scenes with the gatehouse of Stokesay Castle in the background.
The popular plate has Cecil Aldin's signature just to the right of foundation of the inn. These plates were produced in tribute to Aldin's illustrations whose artistry became more widely known after he was asked in 1894 to illustrate Rudyard Kipling's “The Second Jungle Book”. Aldin was both an artist and illustrator best known for his scenes with animals and rural life, including fox hunting.
This plate is in good condition with age appropriate wear. This plate does have crazing on both sides, you can see it in picture 4 along with Cecil's signature. There are no cracks or chips! This charming plate is perfect for any Royal Doulton collection.
