This is an Arpillera (Spanish for sackcloth or coarse burlap) 60s Wall Hanging, exquisitely detailed, a vibrant hand-sewn three dimensional textile picture. Arpilleras depict everyday scenes from daily life in the Peruvian Andes, and above the mountains in the upper right corner the word "Mercado" is stiched, which means “Market” which is the popular farmer's market depicted in the art..

Children love these colorful hangings and they are also fun in a family room or kitchen. The back is beige burlap and it says "Arte Andino International." This piece measures about 19" square. It has tape marks on the back which probably aren't worth washing the art work for, as it's the back.
