1910 German Infantry Target, Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden Infantry popular Regiment, Dated and Mounted Paper Marksmanship Rifle Target
This very old rifle marksmanship popular target was printed in 1910, although it might have been mounted on the wood board later. The target was intended for the 8th Infantry Regiment of the Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden, and it appears that the name of the Captain and Company is written (something) Weiss. The target is a depiction of a buck. Von Baden was born in 1826 and died in 1907 and he was married to the Princess Louise of Prussia, and he was the Grand Duke of Baden from 1858 to 1907. Before German unification in 1871, what we know as Germany was composed of Prussian city states like Baden, each with their own rulers or "kings", like von Baden. This is a printed paper shooting target, probably intended for competition or perhaps training, that has been mounted on a round wood board so that it can be hung and displayed. The board measures about 10" in diameter and 5/8" thick, and the paper target is about 7 3/4" in diameter. It has a wire hook securely attached so this is ready to hang. Unusual and very rare piece.
I have another target, depicting a flying goose or duck, from the same Regiment and mounted similarly, listed separately.
