Product code: Japanese Hat Dancer popular

Meet Yoko – “sun child” – a young girl dressed in typical Edo Period kimono. She dances the story of “musume dojoji” the jealous serpeant woman in Japanese mythology. Her sweet face tells a different story! Yoko is not a geisha but a performer in a traditional street festival.

Yoko stands at 12” tall on a 2” high black base. I estimate that she was made in the 1970's. She has a flawless “gofun” oyster shell popular finish on her face and feet. Her richly ornamented hairdo and vibrant silk kimono have not faded over time. She was kept away from the light of day in a display case for 50 years before the case was broken.

Study the photos to see what a special doll this is for the price! Yoko is a true collector's item from post WWII Japan.

NOTE: Like most hat dancer dolls this one was designed to be viewed from the front. The hats are unfinished on their backsides and are glued to her hands.
