Description

Late 70s S Howard Hirsh peasant style dress in dusty rose. The top has dolman-shaped balloon sleeves with pintucks on the puff (I could not resist saying pintucks on the puff!). The voluminous sleeve fabric is gathered at the fitted cuffs, which have two self-fabric buttons. The neckline is square, and additional pintucks flank the front buttons. The dress also has a front center zipper on the skirt. The skirt is A-shaped, and the weight of the fabric gives it a flattering drape. A very feminine dress.

S Howard Hirsh was one of the California labels active from the early 60s to the early 80s. The clothes are advertised along with Jonathan Logan, R&K, Bleeker St., Koret, Nat Kaplan, Diane Von Furstenburg, Campus Casuals, Leslie Fay, etc. They are well-made. The ad I've included, which is for a dress that has many of the same details (pintucks, balloon sleeves, fabric loop button closures) says it's “ladylike for church but tailored enough for business.” Right.

Measurements (taken flat and to be doubled, except for shoulder and length measurements)

Just a note that the sleeves are dolman-shaped and do not have arm seams, and the dress also lacks defined shoulder seams. As such, there is no shoulder measurement or sleeve length measurement, and the bust measurement is approximate, with give and take.

Hips: relatively full
Top length (center back): 17 inches
Skirt length: 27 inches

Fabric and Care
The fabric type is not listed, but I suspect it's made of poly gabardine, like the dress in the ad. It is hand-washable, per care instructions.

Condition

The dress is in excellent condition (not a single pick to the fabric!), though it is missing its original belt or sash. Note that the scarf pictured with the dress is not included.
