Heavy Wall Crucifix Religious Home Decor Resin Christ on Walnut Wooden Cross Sick Call popular Style, Christian Icon, Gift for Catholic Devotion
Having grown up Catholic and attending a small parish for all my childhood, I gravitate toward special crucifixes, and I look for those made in Italy or with some age. This is one such cross, likely made in the 1980s to 1990s, the cross a double layered wood piece--a cross upon a cross, and typically these are called "sick call" crosses as there are compartments in the bottom layer where we might store candles or Holy Water. This one has nothing in the compartments save for some wax, so we know this has been used. We can see from the original gold foil sticker that it is walnut wood. The Jesus figurine is made of resin, well rendered, and no damage to the resin. The Latin phrase INRI at the top, on a small plate nailed into the wood, is secure. I'll get a photo of that top layer coming off the one below--I actually discovered this after my photos were done, and if I were to keep the cross, I might use that compartment to keep small treasures reminding me of a loved one.
The cross measures 7-1/2" wide by 12-3/4" tall. Weighs close to two pounds unpacked. In good condition although the compartment again may have some wax residue.
A special wall cross for enduring faith.
