What is a Mala?

Mala necklaces are deeply rooted in intention and popular healing. They are used in Hindu, Buddhist, and Yogic tradition for mindful mantra meditation. As you repeat a mantra 108 times feeling each individual bead between your fingers the mind begins to quiet and you begin to embody the mantra. The Mala is always made with 108 beads plus your one Guru bead/charm, which is the 109th bead. The Guru bead allows you the space to thank those that came before you, those who are assisting you on your path now and those who will follow after you -- your gurus, your teachers. These beads and this practice are powerful so handle them with care and use them with intention.
