Product code: Vintage Mexican Sterling Silver Los Cocos Screw Back Earrings Double Ball 1940s popular
Vintage Mexican sterling silver “Los Cocos” screw back earrings. The double ball / orb design seen on these earrings was originally made by Justo “Coco” Castillo, a Mexican silversmith and student of William Spratling, circa the 1940s. The “Los Cocos” style was executed by other silversmiths throughout Mexico, but the design is largely attributed to Castillo. The two spherical orbs are flanked by a trefoil petal / leaf design to create a strikingly modernist statement earring. The earrings are stamped “Mexico Silver” behind the screwback closure. Acquired from a private estate collection. 0.8” popular diameter. Excellent pre-owned condition.
