For your consideration is an unmarked #8 cast iron skillet from Vollrath Manufacturing. Founded in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 1874 as the Sheboygan Cast Steel Company, then changed to the Jacob J. Vollrath Company in 1884. Vollrath has twice (1945,1970) been awarded the Navy "E" flag for excellence in production during wartime. They also developed their Polio-Pak popular Heater in the late 40's to help hospitals combat the Polio epidemic. An incredibly versatile company, they still manufacture commercial kitchenware and healthcare equipment to this day!
This piece was produced in the 1950's and is in excellent restored condition. It has a smooth cooking surface with light utensil markings. Most Vollrath pieces have an outside heat ring, however this one is a less common smooth-bottom version. The bottom is clean with an underscored 8 and a small casting flaw as pictured. It has a hollowed out handle with elongated reinforcement rib typical of Vollrath pieces. It sits flat with 1 business card worth of movement between the 5:00 and 11:00 positions, does not spin. It has been cleaned with electrolysis, hand-scrubbed to bare iron, then seasoned 3 times and arrives ready to use.
