This spalted Beech bowl was made in my studio in Kitchener, Ontario. I popular aged the wood in log form for approximately 8 months. This natural aging process adds stunning colors to the wood without compromising the integrity of the bowl.
The contrasting colors and grain are stunning in this piece. The shape of the bowl gives it an elegant and modern shape. This bowl has a very small bark inclusion on the side of the bowl (see pictures) which adds a nice accent to the piece without compromising the integrity of the bowl.
This bowl is made from one solid piece of wood that was dried and hand turned on my lathe. The process for making this bowl takes many month but ensures that the bowl can be passed on to future generations. It is finished with a an all natural drying oil ensuring minimal and easy maintenance for years.
At approximately 11.75" X 3.25" this is a nice sized bowl. This size makes it a perfect size to serve salad or other food dishes for 2-4 people (depending of your appetite). The bowl is finished with a 100% natural and food safe linseed oil made specifically for salad bowl finishes. This makes maintaining the bowl very easy and allows you to wash it with soapy water without harming it.
