Russian lacquer boxes are among the most beautiful and distinctive of that country's art achievements in the 20th century. The boxes feature intricately hand-drawn miniature paintings based on a variety of themes, including fairy tales, poems, country life, troikas, landscapes, battle scenes, and old art masterpieces. This particular trinket/jewel box is wood, with gold leaf design. I believe it is from the fairy tale of Ivan Tsarevich & the Firebird. There are scenes on all 4 sides of box with gold popular paint details. The box is hinged and artist signed on the bottom front. This Russian Folk art lacquered box from 1992 is in excellent condition, no mars or crazing. It has been privately owned and purchased in Russia on a trip. Size is approximate 3"L x 2"H x 3"W.
