Fiona: Exquisite Vtg. 5 1/2" Tall (w/flowers) Rare, Hand popular Painted Bisque Porcelain 1950's LADY HEAD VASE w/35 Handmade Flowers/Leaves - Mint!
❘❘❙❙❚❚ ON SALE ❚❚❙❙❘❘
These exceptional and hard to find "LADY HEAD VASES" made in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's were generally made by NAPCO, Lennox or Lefton. This appears to be an unsigned Lefton, and, in this terrific, PRISTINE condition, is a find to be coveted - even without the addition of the exquisite and ornate, massive BOUQUET of colorful, gleaming flowers she wears as a "hat."
Made of BISQUE PORCELAIN and hand painted, the "hats" are generally made to support the color of the HIGH RELIEF, applied FLOWERS on the hats, which are, in this case, pink and purple with gorgeous green leaves.
She has beautiful blonde hair, blue eyes, wears eye makeup (you betcha) and red lipstick. The top of her dress is a thick, draped, blue and white "cowl" neck.
Amazing about this piece, and adding substantially to its incredible collectibility and gorgeous appearance is that the definition in ALL things is still abundant and absolutely clear. There is NO PAINT LOSS whatsoever in her dress top, her hat, hair, eyes, neck, throat or makeup: she is entirely as she was made: breathtaking!
I would wager to confidently say this elegant bisque porcelain lady head vase is in MINT VINTAGE CONDITION.
Given the enormous amount of flowers and leaves made to complete her "hat," she is anywhere (their height differs to allow the hat to exhibit a "real" look of the kind of detailed and lovely hats worn, or wished to BE worn, of women of this era, she is from 5 1/2" to 6 1/4" in height.
This lassie is 4" across at her widest, her shoulders.
Again, it is important to note the historical significance of these wonderful items from last century. They were made so that the "ordinary" became "extraordinary" and, for the "regular" woman who was not a movie star or rich, beautiful items such as these were NOT out of reach, but were attainable.
This trend happened in housewares and specialty items such as these gorgeous lady head vases, but also in clothing, hats, gloves and in advertising design, which offered exceptionally beautifully decorated tins et al to entice people to buy and allow women who did not have a lot of money to feel and adorn themselves as if they did.
These lady vases were designed to depict and hone in on the delicacy of a stunning woman, and to make every woman feel they could, indeed, themselves, be stunning.
Designed as planters, either for fake flowers or real ones (or green plants), liberties were taken with these magnificent creatures, and this one sports over 35 different flowers, EACH INDIVIDUALLY HAND MADE with differing colors of SWAROVSKI crystals, painted metal, enamel, glass, porcelain, painted filigree, plain filigree, pearlized acrylics, brass and silver filigree and all manners of VINTAGE pieces which were joined to make a dazzling and colorful display to delight the senses.
The flowers are all multi-level: transparent, luminescent, pearlized, painted, celluloid, glass, crystal, frosted and stacked with gold, silver, copper and a variety of other materials.
With a predominance of PINK based flowers, there are also blue, green, magenta, white, gold and silver flowers and a bevy of detailed green leaves (made from enamel, glass, plastic, crystal, pearlized glass or porcelain) rising up for punctuation.
These beauties, even without the flowers, remain HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE, with prices going into the thousands of dollars, depending on the condition of the piece and the manufacturer. Heads like this one, in grand vintage condition, with ALL THE PAINT still completely intact and with no chips, dents, nicks, crazing or cracks, can, ALONE, sell for somewhere in the $350 to $500.00 price range.
This lass is a triumphant, proud beauty.
All flowers are individually made, then placed in the vase and held in place by a cover of fake green moss, under which are green styrofoam balls, which means you can rearrange the flowers as you will, and the placement of them currently, all around the vase's perimeter, allows you a never-ending and ever-changing of a fantastic riot of color, shape, size and form.
I have attempted to show all different views: front, side, back, top of this marvelous, unique and ONE OF A KIND belle.
Almost every flower has a different kind of leaf attached to its construction.
Each flower was painstakingly MADE BY HAND and NO TWO FLOWERS are the same.
The combination of this particular lady head vase and the individually HANDMADE flowers makes this amazing piece ONE OF A KIND, and ONE OF A KIND in MINT CONDITION!!!!!
Yet, all work together in a symphony of color, distinction and beauty that jibe perfectly with the exquisite vintage vase.
The piece glistens madly and picks up the light with abandon.
This charming and enchanting lassie would look good and bring life to anywhere in your home, and would work as a shelf sitter, a focal point, a centerpiece, etc. It's delightful SHABBY CHIC appearance and delicious abundance of flowers light up any room in which she might be placed.
A fantastic shower gift or perfect for a table set for tea, a wondrous mother's day or birthday gift: a gift for yourself to brighten any area of your home, this gleaming beauty is a sheer delight in addition to having a fascinating historical significance!
(More of these to come)!!!
