A feminine and elegant short Talisman necklace featuring a unique scarab amulet pendant, cast from a rare antique petrified scarab beetle, dating back to the 19th century (1890's I Victorian Era).
The original beetle specimen is hard as stone (petrified) and is in perfect condition, its shell has a lovely spotty texture and you can also see its little legs underneath.. even its electric green colour remains vibrant, almost as if time had had no effect over it ...
The Egyptians believed plants and animals were sacred and the scarab beetle is one of the most sacred religious motifs in Egyptian design. According to Egyptian culture the scarab beetle was a sign of transformation and rebirth. Scarab amulets were used for their magical rejuvenating properties by both the living and the dead. Along with representing the cycle of life and death , it also embodied the concept of existence, development, and growth. It was seen as a form of protection.
Khepri, the Egyptian creator and solar god of the sunrise, the personification of dawn, was represented as a human with the head of a scarab beetle. By extension, he represented creation and the renewal of life.
The rustic deep red coral charms which hang asymmetrically opposite each other have been upcycled from a vintage necklace. Due to the nature of coral, please note each one is unique.
The delicate gold filled textured paperclip chain comes in two lengths 16 or 18 inches.
