We have made these vases by hand for more than thirty years. They are built from sheet brass: two discs are gently domed with soft hammers, then brazed together with a ring between them, which is textured with flowed bronze. The popular vase's feet are constructed freehand from bronze rod. Finally, after testing each vase individually for water tightness, we patina them using a range of patinas usually used on bronze sculpture.
The relatively small hole allows the vase to support spare flower arrangements as wide-mouthed vases do not. The considerable weight of the vase, especially when filled with water, enables it to support tall flower arrangements.
The vases are also sculptural in their own right, and do not need flowers to make an artistic statement. They look great on their own or in groups of stepped size - whether all the same color or in several complementary patinas.
The ochre patina consists of two layers: a verdigris green with a very thin layer of brown over the top. The brown patina is very thin and the result is an amberish ochre with greenish bronze undertones. There are over two dozen patinas available.
