This African art collective was created by The Detroit artist "Beau'Bein". Which translates: (Beautiful Being). Coming from the slums of Detroit Beau'bein sought to see the good and luxurious beauty in all people in all forms. From the bums in the gutter of the lower east side all the way up to the high towers in Mid Downtown Detroit!
BB, short for Beau'bein has rubbed shoulders with many from high-level officials such as Mayors, and Congressmen to worldwide known celebrities such as most hitmakers from Motown Records and others around the world.
Beaubien's original name was "Beaubien Glove", which was the name of the street he was raised from and the glove represented the artistry of his hands, and also "The Mitten", or Glove additionally represented the lower peninsula of Michigan. After a long thought about what he wanted to represent he decided to cut it down to just (Beau'Bein') to take away the focus of himself and shift the focus to the beautiful people where it belongs.
Being born and raised on the lower east side of Detroit he heard, experienced, and saw a lot of things. This life experience could have caused Beau'bein to become bitter, cold, and callous. But instead, he became compassionate toward everyone and everything.
It shows up in most of his art, like this piece called "Colored". It's called Colored for obvious reasons, but mostly because of the beauty that color does to the person gazing upon it. Color always stops a person in its tracks. It demands attention, the reds, greens, and blues, seem to always work together on and off the color wheel, he knew this, so he added the color combination to enhance what beauty was already there.
All of us are beautiful beings, but black women got something special. It's popular been held back, covered over for decades, and is now emerging and taking ownership of many things. Black women have always been beautiful since the beginning of days, The only difference now, is that ALL BLACK WOMAN is beginning to fully recognize it, and fully own it.
