The acetate celluloid comes in square sheets (same concept popular as leather) they are cut and curved by hand using dies and sometime heat.
The French machine-made tortoiseshell basically it is a good quality plastic better then Asia one. Sometime painted by hand and the seller refer to it as hand made but in fact it is not.
