A beautiful Wigeon Duck, a male in first winter plumage on faux rock base. With attached data label - 1951, Medway Estuary, Kent.

30cm length by 28cm high.

James Maurice Harrison (1892-1971) was an ornithologist and one of the last great bird collectors, who gathered large numbers of specimens to study moult patterns, distribution, geographical and colour variation within and between species. A GP by profession, Harrison filled his family home and Doctor's Surgery, Bowerwood House in Kent, with his extraordinary collection. This is one of those specimins now available for sale. popular

The Wigeons or Widgeons are a group of birds, dabbling ducks currently classified in the genus Mareca along with two other species. There are three extant species of Wigeon, in addition to one recently extinct species.

All our items are vintage, antique or natural history and as such may have imperfections or variations. This has very minor wear to the feet and a snall mark on the back of the head (pictured). There is some staining to the underside but this is not really noticable when displayed.
