An exceptional antique Washington Cutlery Co. Village Blacksmith hand forged carbon steel meat cleaver. Seldom seen unique "French Tip" style blade profile.

Excellent antique condition with blade stain patina and wear, handle wear, rock solid and tight as it should be.

The Washington Cutlery Company was incorporated in 1906 in Watertown, Wisconsin and manufactured the "Village Blacksmith" brand of butcher knives, cleavers and tools. By 1921, peak production reached 700,000 pieces annually.

Prior to the 1940s the Village Blacksmith name was incised or stamped directly into the blades and thereafter stamped on the handles. The firm went out of business in the 1960s.

The paper slicing sharp hand forged high carbon steel blade is constructed full tang with solid Maple scales secured with three large brass rivets, hanging hole on end of blade.

Cleaver measures 13 5/8" inches long overall with an 8" inch blade. Nice deep stamp on blade reads Village Blacksmith Solid Steel Forged.
