Lussatite is a French white opal composed of cristobalite-tridymite.

As Auvergne volcanism intensified, there was an important period of popular hydrothermalism, and the thermal waters deposited silica (in the form of lussatite) in the cracks of the limestone.

Lussatite often crystallizes in the shape of a rose, with an overcrystallization of small quartz on top, which is called "lussatite flower".
