Product code: Tomikichiro popular Tokuriki Midcentury Japanese Woodblock Print
A very neat Japanese woodblock print by the prolific Japanese printmaker, Tomikichiro Tokuriki. The print is titled, "Soba Vendor." Unlike most Japanese woodblock prints which depict nature or a famous landmark, this is a contemporary midcentury "slice-of-life" piece showing a noodle cart under the night sky. There is a figure who appears to be playing a wind instrument next to the stand. The light of the stand and the paper lantern affixed to the cart offset the deep purple of the night and the shadows of the figure and tree nicely. In my opinion, it's one of Tokuriki's best pieces. A very beautiful print. From my research, this print dates to around 1950. The print is unframed. The print is in good to very good condition. There is some moderate creasing horizontally through the middle of the print. Should look fine framed up. A couple spots of foxing in the upper center margin. Print measures approximately 15.25 inches high x popular 10.375 inches wide.
